With excellent train and bus connections you can easily venture to Haarlem, Utrecht, or The Hague. I recommend getting a bus to Zaanse Schans and see the wonderful windmills.

There are many other solo travellers in Amsterdam, if you want to meet some consider joining a small group tour. The canal cruises are a great way to see the city and learn some history, you will find you are not the only one solo travelling.
Always trust your instincts, if a street or bar doesn’t feel right, simply move on.

Best Things to Do Alone in Amsterdam
If you are planning your solo itinerary, here are some highlights.
Anne Frank House – A deeply moving experience best appreciated quietly on your own. You need to book tickets in advance. If you can’t get tickets there are a few websites that sell tickets for the next day. I used ticketsswap website.
Albert Cuyp Market is a must visit. Wander through stalls of fresh food, flowers, and souvenirs. This market is great for trying local food such as there fries, stroopwaffles and cheese. There is so much to see.
Vondelpark is a perfect spot for a picnic or to just people watch. If you decide to hire a bike and you are worried about the roads then Vondelpark is a great place to ride a bike.
Get out of the city and go on some day trips. As i have said a trip to Zaanse Schans is a must. A postcard-perfect village with windmills and traditional Dutch crafts. I recommend going here. There is a direct bus from the bus station.
Visit markets, there are a lot of different areas in the city with markets Albert Cuyp Market and Nordermarket in Jordan are worth a visit. There are also markets in the old cental on certain days.
